Employment growth in NWA is at all time high and has exceeded
both national and regional rates for a full two decades. The average unemployment rate is currently at 2.5%. The labor force
is growing at an incredible rate of 8% annually. Retail trade, communications, construction, transportation, and services
sectors are slowly replacing farming as the main source of economy in the region.
Northwest Arkansas has responded
well to the influx of new employment force due to the expansion of Wal-Mart and Tyson Foods. New restaurants, shopping malls,
sub-divisions, hospitals, and entertainment centers welcome the newcomers. Unlike other metropolitan cities, the rapid growth
has not spoiled the natural look and feel of the area. You can still make it from your office to your favorite seat in your
fishing boat in less than 45 minutes.
